Hawa Yakubu was a mentor to women in politics - Asigri

Pusiga(UER), May 01, GNA - Mr Emmanuel Sin-nyet Asigri, Garu-Tempane District Chief Executive on Tuesday said the late Hawa Yakubu was a mentor to aspiring women in politics in northern parts of the country that had been the exclusive of men. He said her death had left an indelible mark in Ghanaian politics that could not be erased and a serious blow to the nation and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Asigri made the observation when presenting some food items on behalf of the Upper West, East, Northern and Diaspora Group to the family of the late Hawa Yakubu towards her funeral celebration this weekend.

The items presented by the group made up of prominent members of the NPP included a bull, four bags of rice, a bag each of maize and millet and cooking oil.

He said the deceased was a national figure who championed the socio-economic development of northern Ghana in her quest to ensure the national cake was shared equally. Mr Asigri expressed sympathy for the bereaved family and was optimistic they would stand firm to perform the necessary funeral rites to give her a befitting burial.

Mr Bawa A. Banga, Senior brother of the deceased who received the items on behalf of the family thanked the group for the gesture. He said preparations were on course to give the deceased a befitting burial.
