Assin North District Assembly inaugurated

Twifo Praso(C/R), Oct. 31, GNA - Ms Susana Mensah, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister on Monday inaugurated Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira and Assin North District Assemblies separately at Twifo Praso and Assin Fosu.

Ms Mensah who delivered President John Agyekum Kufuor's address asked assembly members to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate.

Mr Samuel Agyeibi-Kessie, Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District Chief Executive, appealed to the members to work closely with chiefs to develop their electoral areas.

He was optimistic the assembly members would cooperate with the district administration and traditional authorities to accelerate the development of the district.

Mr Agyeibi-Kessie announced that an induction training workshop sponsored by German Development Service, development partners and Government would be organized to equip them with the requisite knowledge on the district assembly concept and its operations. He asked them to take advantage of the programme to become abreast with proceedings at the assembly the laws governing the establishment and operation of district assemblies.

Mr Emmanuel Agyeman was re-elected Presiding Member of the assembly. He polled 44 out of the 55 votes cast.

At Assin Fosu, Mr Kwabena Karikari Apau, Assin North District Chief Executive advised the assembly members to place the interest of their communities above their personal interest. He said the previous assembly performed creditably despite some constraints and was optimistic more concerted efforts would be made to overcome those constraints that affected the development of the district.

Mrs Elizabeth Tenkorang was re-elected Presiding Member of the assembly. She polled 33 out of the 39 votes cast.
