Yahaya Kwota Escapes Attempted Assassination

Popular New Patriotic Party serial caller, Yahaya Kwota, last week narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on his life when two unknown men on a motorbike allegedly attempted to stab him in front of Mr. Ibrahim Mahama’s residence at Roman Ridge, in Accra.

The NPP serial caller, who has a long standing relationship with the Mahama family even before Mr. John Dramani Mahama became vice President and now President, was reported to have been attacked by two machete wielding motor riders last Friday night while waiting to be ushered into the president’s brother’s residence cum office at Roman Ridge.

A security officer at the facility who witnessed the event told The aL-hAJJ “when Yayaha came I told him to wait as I go in to seek permission from my boss. But while at it, I heard Yahaya screaming for help so we all rushed out only to see two people on a motorbike both holding machetes speed off.”
According to the security officer, the swiftness of the event made them believe that the unknown assailants could have been trailing Yahaya Kwota, “but we couldn’t identify them because as soon as we came out they jumped on their bike and there was no bike available to chase them.”

Mr Kwota, according to a source at the facility, is one of the known friends of the CEO of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama who frequents the place adding, “I am unable to confirm if the failed attempt on his life is as a result of his visits to the house because for some time now some NPP members have been complaining about some of their members who come here”.
When The aL-hAJJ contacted Yahaya Kwota, he confirmed the incident but was reluctant in giving details of what would have been a gory incident, except to say “two men on a motorbike attacked me in front of Ibrahim’s house and nearly stabbed me…in the process they managed to bolt away with my Samsung Galaxy S3”

Asked if he suspects any foul play, he retorted “oh yes…I suspect someone wants to wiped me out of this earth because Ibrahim is my friend and I visit him. There are people who think as NPP I need not befriend Ibrahim whose brother is the President. But Ibrahim and the Mahamas have been my family friends even before John became vice president so I can’t stop visiting Ibrahim because of politics.”

When further asked if he has reported the matter to the police, Mr Kwota said no, “I felt there was no need since the incident happened in front of the police and some military officers…moreover, Mr Ibrahim has since replace my phone they snatched from me”.

Assassinations and threats of assassinations have in recent time gain prominence in the opposition NPP leading to the gory murder of the party’s Upper East former regional chairman, Mahama Adams and Abubakar Saddiq, an NPP youth activist in the Asawase constituency in the Ashanti region.
The Asylum Down headquarters and some constituency offices of the opposition New Patriotic Party have for some time now been the scene of nasty and sometimes violent clashes among the party members.

Executives of the party in Manhyia North in the Ashanti region, only last week issued stern warning to the national executives of the party to rescind their decision to conduct a re- run of a disputed constituency election in the area.

Angry members of the party wielding machetes and stones during the week chanted war songs to protest the intended re-run.

“We don’t want any hypocrisy. We are all one people and we want power. If the NEC is not aware we are making them aware that there is not going to be any re-run at Manhyia North. If they try it, they may have to come with coffins for us,” constituency Deputy Secretary, Patricia Arthur noted.
