Wontumi Detention: I will join NPP's naked demo because I will have a lot to watch - NDC MP

The Member of Parliament for Ada, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, has expressed her willingness to happily join a naked demonstration proposed by the former Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the continued detention of its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Moses Abor, had earlier warned that he might lead a naked demonstration to express the party's displeasure and compel the John Mahama administration to release Chairman Wontumi, who is under investigation for serious criminal charges, including fraud and money laundering.

Abor joined a protest by NPP Members of Parliament and party supporters at the premises of EOCO on Thursday, May 29. 2025, over Wontumi's detention beyond the constitutionally permitted 48-hour limit.

“We are telling the President of the Republic he has only two and a half years left, because in the last year, he cannot campaign. We don’t want to advise ourselves. I earlier told my General Secretary that if care is not taken, we will advise ourselves and hit the streets. If care is not taken, we are going to organise a naked demonstration in this country, because what is going on is not fair,” Abor stated.

However, speaking in an interview with Metro TV on Friday, May 30, 2025, it emerged that Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah motivation for joining the proposed demonstration was less about solidarity and more about personal amusement.

“They should just relax. I even heard they want to do a naked demo. For that one, I will join them — because if men are going to do a naked demo, it means there’ll be a lot of things to watch,” she said.

The First Deputy Majority Whip also called for calm and emphasized the responsibilities that come with holding public office.

“They should rather cease fire so we can all enjoy the peace we’re currently enjoying. If you want to work in a government institution, being invited to the Police Headquarters, EOCO, NIB, and the rest is part of the package. You want the benefits, but you don’t want to face the scrutiny.”
