Women urged to become more assertive

Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, wife of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate, has rallied the nation’s women to be more assertive and show strong inclination towards political leadership positions.

They should refuse to be intimidated by the sometimes crude and rough tactics including outright lies, vilification and insults.

Mrs Akufo-Addo was addressing the annual women’s forum of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of the Tertiary Education Confederation Network (TESCON), the students’ wing of the NPP in Kumasi.

“The role of the modern woman in politics” was the theme and the goal was to whip up their enthusiasm in frontline politics.

Mrs Akufo-Addo underlined the need to give women every needed support and encouragement to actively engage in politics.

They should be groomed and given leadership training, she added.

She welcomed the appointment of some women to high profile positions and said she was confident this would inspire many to set high targets and work hard to achieve these.

Mrs Otiko Afisa Gyaba, the NPP’s National Women Organizer, called for women to be bold to push forward with their convictions.

she encouraged them never shy away from taking up leadership challenges in the society.

She urged the students to show keen interest in the biometric voter registration exercise and should ensure that they get their names in the voters’ roll to enable them to vote in the upcoming December general elections.**
