We have a formidable candidate; we don't need EC to rig elections for us - NPP man

A member of the Communications Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has stated that the party can win the upcoming 2024 elections without the Electoral Commission’s influence.

According to him, the NPP has implemented measures that will help it win the elections, particularly with the help of the party's candidate, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia.

Speaking on Accra-based United Television, he said, "The NPP does not need the Electoral Commission to rig elections for us. We have a formidable candidate. Our candidate's credibility is intact. Our candidate, Dr Bawumia, has his integrity intact. Our candidate has been vice president for 8 years. You cannot associate him with any corruption scandal."

"We don't need the Electoral Commission to rig elections for anyone," he reiterated.

Botchway added that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should abandon hope of returning to power, as the NPP is confident of defeating them in the upcoming elections, even without any assistance from the Electoral Commission.

"In 2020, that was the same strategy the NDC used that Jean Mensa would rig the elections for the NPP... After the 2020 elections, you said you wouldn't accept defeat so you took it to court and the court asked you to provide figures that showed that indeed there was rigging; yet, they couldn't provide.

"This is the same NDC seated here and they're taking this same strategy into the election 2024. They haven't learnt any lesson from the elections 2016 and 2020 defeat and we're going to beat them again. We don't need the Electoral Commission because it’s an independent body working on its own,” he said.
