Private legal practitioner and former parliamentary aspirant, Gloria Ofori-Boadu, has lamented the growing influence of money in Ghana’s electoral politics, asserting that “the highest bidder always wins.”
Speaking in an interview on TV3 on October 14, 2025, Ofori-Boadu described how financial influence has become a factor in both internal party primaries and national elections.
“In Ghana, all the time, the highest bidder always wins. That is the norm,” 3news.com quoted her to have said during the interview.
She explained that political aspirants are often compelled to provide financial and material support to delegates during campaign periods, making it difficult for competent but less wealthy candidates to succeed.

“During the campaign, the delegates became like family. Some of them who were bereaved, we helped them buy coffins, paid school fees and handled general household expenses.
“It was quite a lot. Every day, you get people calling to say hello and once in a while, they chip in with their needs,” she added.
Ofori-Boadu, who contested the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Abuakwa Constituency in 2016 and 2024, said her personal experiences confirmed that the use of money to influence elections is not just perceived but deeply entrenched.
