Voter Registration: Waste of Resources ? Dan Lartey

The flagbearer of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP0, Mr. Dan Lartey, says the ongoing nationwide voters? registration exercise would only result in the waste of the country?s resources and time.
He said if the Electoral Commission (EC) has no prepared properly to undertake the registration exercise, it should not have in the first place proceeded to start it.
According to him, some officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were found at some of the registration centres conducting the registration, adding that this would not augur well for the country?s electoral processes.
Speaking to the Kumasi-based Fox FM, the GCPP leader questioned the rationale behind the fact that some parts of country have access to photographs as soon as registered while would have been billed to have theirs subsequent days.
This, he said, would lead to deficiency in the electoral processes, waste of time and a bloated voters? register at the long run.
Mr. Lartey suggested that part of the EC preparation could be that local photographers could be employed by the EC to complement the insufficient cameras available to carry out the exercise successfully.
He further noted that in the northern part of the country such as Bimbilla and Kumewu, 13 and 17 year old children were participating in the registration exercise without any check. He said the Electoral Commission should have been able to identify all these electoral lapses before it proceeded to do its registration.
Mr. Dan Lartey, has therefore promised to change the whole electoral system should he win the political mandate in the forthcoming elections, saying he would ensure that all eligible voters would be documented.
