Volta NDC elects regional executives

Kpando, (V/R) Oct. 16, GNA-Mr Modestus Ahiable, Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday emerged unopposed to lead the party in the region for the next three years. Also elected unopposed were Mr Johnson Dabo, First Regional Vice-Chairman, Mr Steve Akorli, Second Regional Vice-Chairman, and Mr Francis Ganyaglo Regional Secretary.

This was at the sixth biennial delegates conference of the party at Kpando, attended by the Founder, Former President Jerry John Rawlings, former Vice-President and the party's 2000 and 2004, Presidential candidate, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, and Mr. Bede Ziedeng, Acting General Secretary of the party, and some members of the Volta Regional Parliamentary caucus.

Mr Manfred Nuku Dei beat Mr Ahorlu Gameli by 113 votes to 49 to become the deputy Regional Secretary, while Mr. Michael Gamor retained his position as Regional Organizer with 73 votes against 57 and 32 by William Attipoe and George Sika respectively.

The position of Propaganda Secretary went to Mr Nicholas Fato with 106 votes, beating Mr Abraham Tsrakasu to 22 votes.

Mr Myles Simon Baka polled 104 votes against 56 by Mrs Bertha Nunyuie to become the Regional Treasurer, with the position of deputy Regional Treasurer going to Madam Rose Newell with 119 votes to 42 votes polled by Mr Fridoline Bansah.

Mr Maxwell Owusu becomes the Regional Youth Organizer with Wisdom Deafeamekpor and George Kportorwu as the First and Second Deputy Youth Organizers respectively.

Others are Madam Mercy Kuada, Women Organizer, Madam Jessie Ekumabu, First Deputy Women Organizer and Madam Grace Zakli Gbedegbe, Second Deputy Women Organizer Swearing them into office, Mr Ziedeng cautioned them to build upon the solid foundation of the party in the region and put in check the inroads being made by the NPP in the region.

"The ground is fertile but if you do not till and plant the seeds you will not reap anything", he said.

Mr Ziedeng said the leadership of the party has confidence in them.
