The Member of Parliament for Assin South, John Ntim Fordjour, has criticised the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing its style of governance as resembling a 'tyranny'.

According to him, it appears the government is using state machinery to intimidate its opponents, particularly members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), over mere expressions of speech.

The lawmaker, in a post on X on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, reacted to the remand of the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe Abronye, alleging a possible persecution of political opponents.

He warned that such abuse of power will not be tolerated by the opposition NPP.

“This tyranny is nauseating and will not be tolerated beyond 4 years. While they are at it, they must remember Power Changes hands and no regime is permanent,” he said.

He lashed out at the government for its failure to arrest and keep their own members who, he claimed, had insulted prominent individuals in the past in check.

To buttress his point, Ntim Fordjour referenced the recently ended Akwatia by-election, during which the NPP’s National 3rd Vice Chairman, Alhaji Masawud Osman, was openly assaulted by Sofo Azorka, a National Vice Chairman of the NDC.

“Kevin Taylor insulted and threatened notable people including judges, chiefs, clergy, president among others and was given state security escort to court in a Landcruiser Prado under President Mahama.

“Azorka is walking free after assaulting Chairman Masawud and threatening Afenyo-Markin our Minority Leader. Chairman Abronye on the other hand was arrested in a dramatic manner, remanded and put in Black Maria to court like a hardened criminal,” he asserted.

Ntim Fordjour contrasted the treatment of NPP members, who he said are swiftly arrested, with the lack of prosecution of pro-government individuals, describing it as ‘selective justice’.

“Pro NPP social media influencers are constantly intimidated and mishandled by the NDC government and their remote-controlled security agencies as if they’re not citizens. It was Fante Commedy, Sir Obama Pokuase, Adenta Kumi, and most recently Abronye. Selective justice breeds retribution when power changes hands,” he cautioned.

He reiterated that government’s actions would not be tolerated, reminding them that no administration holds power forever.
