Tema East MP to face disciplinary committee for misconduct

Tema, Dec. 12, GNA - A case involving Mr Ishmael Ashitey, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema East has been referred to the Greater Accra Regional Disciplinary Committee of the party for his alleged misconduct.

Three other executive committee members have been suspended indefinitely from the party on a similar charge, while Mr Yaw Anim-Addo has been withdrawn from the regional disciplinary committee. They are Mr Ofoe Teye, Organizer, Isaac Newtown, Youth Organizer and Madam Agnes Amoo Tabiah.

Mr Charles Boateng, Secretary of the branch announced these measures at a news conference on Tuesday at Tema to explain differences that were gradually causing a splint in the party's front. Flanked by his executive members including Mr Ken Obeng-Fosu, Chairman, Mr Boateng accused Mr Ashitey of adopting "divide and rule tactics" in order to break the party's front in the constituency. According to him the MP had indicated that he could not work with him (Boateng) and Mr Obeng-Fosu ever since they were elected about two years ago and had resorted to "negative means" to achieve his purpose using the suspended members.

This among other issues has created a division within the rank and file as about three weeks ago another faction was reported to have elected a five-member new executive with Mr Anim-Addo as Chairman.
