TESCON supports Boniface

Accra, May 19, GNA - The University of Ghana branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy of the NPP (TESCON) on Sunday announced its unflinching support to Alhaji Abubakar Sadiqque Boniface, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, as "the most suitable candidate" to partner Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the running mate for the 2008 presidential election.

This was contained in a press release signed by Mr. Alexander Frimpong, President and Mr. Isaac Sarpong, Secretary.

The statement said their decision was without coercion or prejudice from any quarters but through their own painstaking research conducted on candidates whose names had come up for consideration. "Undoubtedly, ethnic and religious considerations are important ingredients that must not be overlooked in taking decisions of such great political magnitude and Boniface is a Northern Zongo Muslim whose popularity in the political landscape is unquestionable." According to the statement, Alhaji Boniface was an icon for the youth, making him the Barak Obama of the NPP because "he cuts across ethnic divide and brings along the young and the old". Mr Obama is the leading presidential candidate of the Democratic Congress in the US.
