TESCON NPP commends elevation of Owusu-Agyei

Winneba, Aug. 6, GNA - The University of Education, Winneba, branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederation (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has commended the MP for Effutu and former Deputy Minister of Health, Mr. Samuel Kofi Owusu-Agyei, on his elevation to a full ministerial status.

Mr. Owusu-Agyei is currently the sector Minister responsible for Public Sector Reforms.

A statement issued by the UEW TESCON Executive at Winneba, at the weekend, also congratulated all NPP former and present ministers, deputy ministers and other staunch members who were given ministerial appointments by President John Agyekum Kufuor during the recent cabinet reshuffle.

The statement, endorsed by UEW TESCON President, Mr. David Addotey, described the elevation of Mr. Owusu-Agyei to a full Ministerial portfolio as a step in the right direction and further expressed the optimism that he would live up to his new challenges. It recalled the tireless efforts Mr. Owusu-Agyei had been making towards improving the socio-economic well-being of the people in his constituency as well as the hard work he put in during his tenure of office as a Deputy Minister of Health.

According to the statement, leaders of the University of Education, Winneba, branch of TESCON were highly impressed by the contributions Mr. Owusu-Agyei put in during the recent fatal road accident at Gomoa-Okyereko to ensure that the seriously injured victims of the accident were transferred to tertiary health facilities in Accra, as well as the acquisition of adequate chemicals to ensure the proper preservation of the bodies of victims who lost their lives. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency later, Mr. Addotey, the UEW TESCON President, said the leaders were also impressed about the good work Mr. Owusu-Agyei had done for the people in the Effutu Constituency in the past three years.

Mr. Addoty said he had personally monitored the road networks Government was presently putting in place in and outside Winneba Township through the initiative of Mr. Owusu-Agyei, to give the constituency a better shape as far as roads linking the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District capital and communities in the Effutu Constituency was concerned.

Besides, the MP had pumped millions of his share of the Common Fund into the education of more than 120 brilliant but needy Junior Secondary School students who were successful in last year's Basic Education Certificate Examinations in the area, to pursue Secondary Education to enable them to make ample use of their God-given talents. Mr. Addotey said leaders of UEW TESCON had also been monitoring the huge financial support the Effutu MP had given to hundreds of fishmongers among petty traders engaged in MICRO credit businesses in the area.

The TESCON President said, taking all these vital contributions by the former Deputy Minister of Health into account, it was not by chance that President Kufuor, in his wisdom decided to appoint Mr. Owusu-Agyei as a full Minister to enable him to render excellent service to the nation.

He called for maximum co-operation, understanding, and support from all Ghanaians to enable the new ministers and their deputies to accomplish their national assignments successfully. Mr. Addotey on behalf of the executive officers of UEW TESCON praised national leaders of the NPP for pegging the fees payable by NPP Presidential aspirants at GH ( 25,000 (250,000,000 Cedis) and appealed to followers and supporters of the Presidential aspirants to ensure peaceful campaign for the whole world to know that the party was still bent on maintaining the peace and stability the nation was enjoying. 06 Aug. 07
