The Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Nyarko Osei, has reacted to his colleague MP for Gomoa Central’s petition against the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Abena Osei Asare.
According to him, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, whom his colleague Kwame Asare Obeng has petitioned to remove Abena Osei Asare from the committee as its chair, has no authority to make such a decision or remove her.

Nyarko Osei further insisted that even the Majority Leader has no powers to remove a parliamentary committee member.
He criticised A Plus for not familiarising himself with parliamentary procedures as is expected of lawmakers before taking such an action.
“My colleague A Plus should take his time to learn the parliamentary rules and procedures properly. He should know and understand that the speaker has no powers to remove any member of parliament from any committee not even the leader of Government business in the house has such powers,” he wrote on Facebook on November 4, 2025.
The lawmaker, explaining the proper procedures, stated that any alteration can only be made by the leadership of both the Majority and Minority, adding that they can change a committee member through the Committee of Selection.
He said that the petition, in his view, is “dead on arrival.”
“His petition to the speaker to remove Hon Abena Osei Asare is dead on arrival. It’s only the leadership of the caucuses that can alter the membership of any committee through the committee of selection,” he stated.
“If he thinks the Hon Member has done anything unparliamentary, he should invoke the appropriate sections of standing order against her, but to call the Speaker to remove her as the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee is nothing but a political bravado. I wish my colleague would withdraw this petition immediately to avoid any embarrassment to himself,” he emphasised.

A Plus, in his petition calling for Abena Osei Asare’s removal as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, argued that she is unfit to lead a committee tasked with probing financial malfeasance and infractions, as she is allegedly complicit in some of the very issues the committee is expected to investigate.
