South-Dayi Assembly election for DCE goes to runoff

Kpeve-Newtown, June 15, GNA - Mrs Woyram Boachie-Danquah, 49, could not obtain the two-thirds ballot required for her approval as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the new South Dayi District. She got 11 votes out of the 18 ballots, representing 61.7 percent instead of the required 66.7 percent.

Officials of the Regional Electoral Commission who supervised the elections said the elections would be re-run after ten days. So far, Mrs Boachie-Danquah, an administrator, is the first nominee of the President in the Volta Region to have failed to get a first round approval.

The Ho, Ketu, Keta, Akatsi, South-Tongu and North-Tongu assemblies have approved the President's nominees with overwhelming majority votes. At the South-Dayi elections were Mr Kofi Opoku-Edusei, Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister and Mr Tommy Amematekpor, a Presidential Aide.
