Scores of prospective voter applicants remained unregistered

Hohoe, Aug. 13, GNA - Scores of prospective voter applicants numbering about 42, remained in queue as the six o'clock deadline elapsed at the E. P. Junior High School (JHS) centre at Hohoe-Ahado. They blamed the Electoral Commission (EC) for an unprofessional conduct and the creation of shortages during the exercise so that many of them could be disenfranchised.

Daniel Agbeko, 22, said distortions created by shortages of registration forms were responsible for their non-registration. He appealed to the EC to reconsider creating another platform to facilitate their registration and contribution of quota to the democratization process in the country.

Mr Wilberforce Drai, Registration Officer said a total of 2,055 people were registered in the 13-days exercise. He said the centre registered 324 more people for the two days extension period with about 60 forms remaining as the registration exercise was broken for a period of time before fresh forms were brought.

Ms Francisca Sorsoe, Registration Officer at the Saint Teresa's JHS said 1,879 people were registered by the deadline with Monday and Tuesday recording 301 people. There was no queue with 33 leftover forms. Agents of the two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party protested against the use of non-serialized forms, which they said could be a recipe for chaos.
