Science tutor to contest Abetifi seat on NDC ticket

Pepease (E/R), Aug. 19, GNA - Mr Samuel Asamoah, a 44-year-old science tutor of Abetifi Presbyterian Senior High School, has been elected by popular acclamation as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant for Abetifi. All the 126 delegates endorsed Mr Asamoah's candidature at a delegates' conference of the party at Kwahu Pepease on Tuesday. The election was conducted by the Kwahu South District Electoral Officer, Mr Appeah Agyemang.

Addressing the delegates the Eastern Regional Organizer of the party, Mr Bismarck Tawiah Boateng, appealed to people in the constituency to vote for Mr Asamoah because he had spent 40 schooling and teaching in the Kwahu area and knows problems facing the people more than other candidates. Mr Kwasi Dankyi, a former District Chief Executive for Kwahu South, urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to come out with the actual voters' population of the constituency. He said when he contested for the parliamentary seat in 2004 the EC gave the voters' population as 33,000 but after the election that figure "mysteriously" shot up to 52,000.

Mr Dankyi appealed to NDC supporters in the constituency to be vigilant during the election to avoid being cheated. The Regional Youth Organizer of the party, Mr Kwaku Asamoah, said the policies of the NPP government favoured only rich people while the poor were getting poorer and appealed to the electorate to vote the government out of power come December. The candidate thanked the delegates and the party officials for the and called on the EC to ensure a level playing field for free and fair election in the constituency.
