Save Us – Taxi Drivers Cry Out To Mills

Taxi drivers at the Odawna Taxi Rank on Tuesday virtually went on their knees crying out to John Evans Atta Mills, NDC Leader and Presidential Candidate, to come and “save” them from the hands of the “wicked and inhuman” government of John Agyekum Kofi Diawuo Kufuor.

The Taxi drivers, numbering close to 50, cried for Atta Mills’ ’ “salvation” when the former vice president met them as part of his ground-breaking retail campaign style which is making him interact with the “ordinary” Ghanaian in their natural habitats.

Crying out to Atta Mills, the downhearted taxi drivers complained bitterly about how they are suffering under the inhuman policies of Kufuor’s NPP government.

In particular, the drivers complained about the rate at which they are hauled before the Motor Courts and fined exorbitant amounts ranging between 6 million and 12 million and how lots of drivers are in jail because of their inability to pay the huge fines.

What seems to be irking the drivers in recent times is the belief of the drivers that the TATA taxies that have been imported into the country have been brought in by Kufuor and his cronies to squeeze the already suffering drivers out of the taxi business.

According to the aggrieved taxi drivers, they have picked up reliable information that the TATA taxies belong to Kufuor and his cronies and that the taxies have been brought in purposely for CAN 2008.

“We have heard that the TATA taxies are the only taxies that would be stationed at Hotel De waa waa and the other Hotels that would host the guests which means that the rest of us will not benefit one bit from the extra money that would be coming into the system” one of the angry drivers said.

“How greedy can Kufuor be? Why is it that Kufuor wants only he and his family to own property? What kind of wickedness have we brought upon the nation? Kufuor is too wicked and I really regret voting for the NPP in 2000 and 2004” were the comments of another aggrieved driver who tore his NPP membership card in the presence of Atta Mills.

Pledging their unalloyed support for Atta Mills, the angry drivers said that they are going to make sure that they use their time and energy to campaign seriously for the NDC Presidential Candidate because when he was in charge of managing the economy life was much better for Ghanaians.

“We made sure we worked on the minds of passengers to get the NPP to power and that is the same thing we shall do to get them out of power. We drivers are very angry and we shall do whatever it takes to get the NPP out of power” was how the drivers put it.

The NDC Leader and Presidential Candidate, in line with his “I Care For You” message as well as the social democracy philosophy of the NDC, promised the drivers that his government will always have the interest of the masses foremost on its agenda and so will provide the necessary safety nets and cushioning measures that would not leave the majority of Ghanaians suffering whilst a few people feed fat off the resources of the state.

“I will care for every Ghanaian and will certainly not be so insensitive so as to engage in any kind of business that would take the daily bread out of the mouths of lots of Ghanaians” Atta Mills said.

Giving his innovative door-to-door retail campaign a new and refreshing look, NDC Leader and Presidential Candidate, John Evans Atta Mills, is diffusing his “I Care For You” message in markets and lorry parks and really touching the hearts and minds of the suffering masses.

In the past two weeks, the law professor, legal luminary, tax expert and former vice president, has been reaching out to thousands of Ghanaians; meeting and interacting with them in their natural habitats and asking them to “please” give him their mandate to bring a meaningful change to Ghana and Ghanaians and to restore the nations lost pride and shredded glory.
