Sammy Crabbe draws parallels between his removal and Charlotte Osei's ouster

A former 2nd Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, has asserted that Charlotte Osei, a former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), was removed from office by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government using the same ploy used against him and other officials of the party.

Crabbe who was removed together with other top officials of the party, including its National Chairman, Paul Afoko, and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong, asserted that the plan used against Charlotte Osei’s office was first practised on them.

He added that in both the removal of the former EC boss and his removal, the security of tenure was attacked by a person who wanted them out, including the then-President, Akufo-Addo.

“The same method they used to remove Afoko, Kwabena Agyapong, myself, and other officers of the party is the same playbook they used to remove Charlotte Osei. They got some people to write a petition, and then he said, ‘I don't know anything about it, I’m just the president’.

“Meanwhile, I go to the Council of State, and you (the president) practically appointed all of them. So, it goes there, and finally comes to you and then you say, I don't know anything about it, I followed due process. It is a façade,” he said.

“It's the same thing. So, they played it out within the NPP. And then people, including people from your profession (the media), helped them, and then they succeeded. So, they hit against Charlotte Osei. Remember, when they went after Charlotte, they were going after security of tenure (just like in our case). She had a security of tenure but they had burst it within NPP,” he added.

He asserted that the actions of the NPP when it was in office are the same things being mimicked by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
