The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has expressed concern over stalled road projects across the country, particularly lamenting the delay in the dualisation of the Winneba-Kasoa highway, which he described as a major inconvenience for commuters.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, he noted that several contractors working on key road projects have abandoned their sites due to non-payment by the government.

The Member of Parliament for Effutu urged the government to promptly settle all outstanding arrears owed to road contractors to ensure the timely completion of the projects.

“The Kasoa-Winneba Road, the contractor has left the site, and it is making motorists suffer. Mr. Speaker, I would like you to let them know that the contractors are working on major roads that need to be completed,” he said.

His comments come in the wake of a $360 million financing agreement between the Government of Ghana and the World Bank under the Second Resilient Recovery Development Policy Financing initiative.

The facility is intended to support the country’s ongoing efforts to restore macroeconomic stability, reduce inflation, create jobs, and mitigate the impact of future economic shocks.

The agreement was laid before the House on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, by the Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem.
