Removing of posters is against electoral law

Obuasi (Ash), Sept 13, GNA- Mr. Prince Agyei-Badu, an aspiring assembly member for the Bogobri-Nkanprom electoral area in the Obuasi municipality, has cautioned against the removal of posters of candidates in the District assembly elections.

According to him, even though some might be doing so out of love for the aspirants and not with any malice, the act is against the electoral laws of the country.

The aspiring assemblyman stressed, "Defacing or removing aspirants' posters from the walls of public places is against the electoral laws". Mr Agyei-Badu, who was speaking to the press advised the youth against violence during the campaigns and also before, during and after the elections. The district level election for assembly members and the unit committees is slated for September 26.

Mr Agyei-Badu, seeking re-election after losing his seat in the last assembly election in 2002, reminded the electorate about the non-partisan nature of the election.

He said eligible voters should disregard party affiliation and instead vote for the person who has the ability and experience to lead the area to achieve its development goals.

Mr Agyei-Badu said he had the qualities to lead the people since his commitment and devotion is known to all in the electoral area. He said before he left the assembly in 2002, a number of development projects that were approved for the electoral area but could not be implemented due to delays would be reactivated.

The projects, he said, included the construction of a bridge on the Bogobri-Nyameso road to facilitate the carting of foodstuffs and other goods to the Bogobri market, dredging of the Nyam stream, and the construction of Nkanprom and Bogobri markets.

Mr Agyei-Badu said his priority would be to establish the first public basic school at Nyamebekyere since "one has to go to private school in the area or had to walk to Obuasi town to attend a public school". Mr Agyei-Badu said he was committed to the development of the area and appealed to the electorate to rally behind him and vote to return him to the assembly.
