Reject Joe Ghartey - Pro-NDC group

The Young Democrats, a pro-NDC youth group, has called on the leadership in Parliament to reject the nomination of Mr Joe Ghartey, the Member of Parliament for Essikado, for the position of second deputy Speaker.

They joined the earlier calls by Media Analyst group, another pro-NDC group and the deputy Minister of Information, Samual Okudzeto Ablakwa who appealed to the leadership in Parliament to consider Mr Alhassan Azong, the PNC member for Bulsa North and a Minister of State in charge of Public Sector Reform.

Mr Atukwei Quaye, the spokesperson for the group who is also the deputy Greater Accra Regional Secretary for the NDC, said Mr Ghartey had stated his support for NPP’s claim that that the President-elect had colluded with the Electoral Commission to rig the votes, thus the current dispensation is invalid.

He said if this is the claim, then why would he need the support of the NDC to be nominated to his desired position which is a crucial role in the house.

Mr Quaye said if the NPP would not change its stated position on the recent elections and proceed to demonstrate during the swearing-in ceremony of the President-elect, then the Young Democrats would on Tuesday equally come out in their numbers to support and ensure the successful conclusion of the ceremony.
