Reform Chairman to contest Agona West Parliamentary seat

Agona Swedru, May 27, GNA - The Central Regional Chairman of the National Reform Party (NRP), Mr Ishmael Kofi Turkson, has declared his intention to contest the Agona West Parliamentary seat. Mr Turkson, Swedru based legal practitioner, said his intention followed pressure on him by the youth and opinion leaders at Agona Swedru and other towns in the constituency to contest the election and lead in the development of the area.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Agona Swedru, Mr Turkson said the time had come for him to respond to the call from the masses to salvage the constituency. He said practicing as a lawyer at Agona Swedru for 15 years and being Assemblyman for Dwenho Electoral Area in the municipality for four years could afford him an opportunity to turn the fortune of the area. Mr Turkson said he would tackle education, health and sanitation that had become social problems. He said he would lobby government institutions, well-to-do citizens, corporate bodies and non-governmental organizations for the provision of social amenities for the people. Mr Turkson said enough structures had been put in place that would give him opportunity to defeat other contestants in the December elections.

"I am the only person who can cause major upset in the Agona West Constituency by wrestling the seat from ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)," he said.
