Redenominated Mahama better than ‘depreciated’ Akufo-Addo – Kofi Adams

Former National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress,(NDC) Kofi Adams has rejected calls made by the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) for Ghanaians not to vote former President John Mahama back into power come 2020 general elections.

The NPP on Sunday called on Ghanaians not to make the “biggest mistake” again of entrusting the country’s resources, its future into the hands of John Mahama and his NDC.

The ruling party accused the erstwhile Mahama administration of almost grounding the economy by taking oil-rich Ghana from a growth path of 14% to 3.4%.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra Sunday, April 7, 2019, the General Secretary of the party, John Boadu said Mahama has nothing new to offer Ghanaians other than the incompetence and corruption Ghanaians witnessed under his tenure.

“Say no to a redenominated candidate (Mahama) for he never changes. Mahama – the Value is the same. More importantly, the NDC alternative under Mahama is still scary,” he stated.

But Kofi Adams in a strong rebuttal said he preferred a redenominated Mahama who will carry a better and stronger value than a depreciated President Akufo Addo.

“Until 2007 several Ghanaians had not heard of redenomination, it was the NPP who said the successful redenomination of the Cedi was one of their best achievements. So if redenomination is good and Mahama is a redenominated person then that’s good. I prefer a redenominated Mahama who will carry a better and stronger value than a depreciated leader. If John Boadu had said Mahama was depreciated that would have been a huge cause for worry for me. But if he says Mahama is redenominated then it means he’s even much stronger now and he’s going to implement things better. John Boadu doesn’t understand the word redenominated.”

Kofi Adams added: “The NPP didn’t want us to do a proper analysis that is what they threw in John Boadu with the Press conference to turn the debate into a political football. But we are not going to follow him, we’ll continue to speak the truth to Ghanaians about the things which affect their lives.”
