REGSEC lifts ban on political activities

Tamale, Aug 27, GNA - The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC), has lifted the ban it imposed last year, on political activities in the Tamale Metropolis and Yendi District.

The decision followed the lifting of the state of emergency by the Government in the two conflict-prone areas, last week and the outcome of a meeting between the REGSEC and the Leadership of the various political parties in Tamale.

A statement issued in Tamale and signed by Mr Charles Abass, Secretary to the REGSEC, said the Council had reviewed the security situation and found it favourable to lift the ban.

The REGSEC enforced the ban on outdoor political activities in the wake of clashes between supporters of the main opposition National Democratic Congress and the ruling New Patriotic Party last year.
