On Thursday, December 4, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama officially handed over forty (40) state-of-the-art armored vehicles to the Ghana Police Service, highlighting his administration's commitment to adequately equipping security agencies in their fight against crime.

The addition of these vehicles enhances the police service's capacity to protect the public and maintain order, thereby strengthening national security.

The fleet comprises fifteen (15) armored pickups, five Cobra-Four vehicles, and twenty Cobra-Three special armored cars, all equipped with advanced electronic systems designed to improve police operations in high-risk situations.

The handover ceremony took place at the Ghana Police Headquarters on December 4, with various government officials and key police personnel in attendance.

During the ceremony, President Mahama emphasised that these vehicles are not merely symbolic; they serve as operational tools designed to enhance police response capabilities, protect officers during hazardous missions, and strengthen patrols in rugged terrain and high-crime areas.

He stated, "These vehicles have been procured as operational tools, not as symbols. They are designed to strengthen police response in high-risk environments and enhance officer protection during dangerous operations."

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohunu, addressed the attendees and assured them that the vehicles would be strategically deployed and well-maintained to achieve their intended objectives.

He expressed gratitude to the government for its crucial support, acknowledging the importance of modern resources in combating crime.

"We sincerely express our profound gratitude to the government for prioritising our welfare. We assure you that the vehicles will be well-maintained and strategically deployed to accomplish their goals," he said.

President Mahama reassured the nation of his government’s commitment to combating crime, protecting citizens, and fostering a conducive environment for national development.

IGP Yohunu added that the new vehicles would significantly enhance the service’s ability to respond to emergencies, secure communities, and uphold law and order.

He urged officers to use these assets responsibly and continue their mission of safeguarding lives and properties across the country.

Addressing the welfare of security personnel, President Mahama remarked, "Too often, we have lost men in the line of duty because we send them on missions without providing them with appropriate equipment. That is why, from the start of my administration, I committed to retooling and modernising all our security agencies."
