President Akufo-Addo is a good governor - Nii Tema

The Industrial City King, Dr. Nii Adjei Kraku II, has praised President Akufo-Addo’s style of statecraft, saying the Ghanaian leader is a good governor.

“I also like the fact that when this President makes mistakes, he never allows himself to be tied down by the mistakes, but openly rectifies those mistakes for all to see,”.

Nii Tema who said this in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said the President’s style of governance consisted of bold initiative-taking and a listening disposition that made it possible for citizens to feel a sense of ownership of the governance process.

According to him, “at this stage of our development, this President fits our needs perfectly. I like the way he is doing the heavy lifting in the area of industrialization for instance which I think is very good.

“Over the years, we have wailed and complained about the lack of manufacturing base for our economy, and left it at that, but through President Akufo-Addo’s ‘One District One Factory’ initiative, we are confronting this issue head-on,” Nii Tema said.

According to him the President’s groundbreaking policies such as 1d1f, one village one dam and Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) were important starting points for the country’s future.

“You know, when people say Akufo-Addo lied his way to power and that he will not be able to achieve all these promises, I smile off that point of view as very un-insightful. President Akufo-Addo does not need to fulfill these promises, all he needs to do is to start them just like he has done. The take-off means there is a new standard that has been set for every future government."

“Because of Akufo-Addo, Ghanaians are not going to accept anything cheap from any Government in future because what many said was not possible, this President has initiated and set the course for it. Look at Free SHS for instance. I will submit to you, that with what the President has started, we don’t need any 50-year development plan anymore; the development plan is right there before our eyes – ‘one district one factory, one village, one dam, free education, planting for food and jobs, etc.”

Nii Tema also said praise was in order for President Akufo-Addo for his show of humanity whenever he made mistakes.

According to the Tema Mantse, the topical suspension of the PDS contract, for instance, is a mark of a bold leader, who did not fear facing up to his own mistakes and correcting them.

“If you would recall, what is happening with the PDS issue is similar to what happened with AMERI Power contract. When some people within his own government managed to bamboozle him into re-signing the contract so another company could take over, the President reversed the contract when he later discovered that he was misled and fired the sector Minister. This is very healthy for us because it means we have a President who is not afraid to face up to his mistakes,” Nii Tema said.

He urged Ghanaians to be patient with President Akufo-Addo and support him every way possible. “Because already, this President has done so much for us by kick-starting these huge programmes that he has started.”
