Politics can't be reduced to teasing, jeering opponents - Dedey

Ho, Nov. 7, GNA - Mr Michael Kosi Dedey, Ho-Central Parliamentary Candidate of the Convention People's Party (CPP) on Saturday said the country's fledgling democracy was at risk, if politics were reduced to teasing, jeering and insulting political opponents rather than discussing the issues at stake.

He said it was high time, the electorate knew that politics was a serious business that could not be reduced to a gutter game. Mr Dedey, who was addressing a political rally in Ho, wondered how people could bear allegiance to a political party based on only the physical appearance of its founder or flag bearer, to the detriment of its ideology, manifesto or capabilities.

He urged political parties to embark on a crusade to educate their followers on their ideals, ideologies and manifestoes, in an attempt to reverse this negative trend.

Mr Dedey said the phenomenon could stifle the gains being made in the democratisation process, as "good reason and judgement would be sacrificed on the altar of ignorance".

He urged the electorate in the Region to take a strategic position in the December polls to avoid missing out on the developmental agenda. Mr Dedey said the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Governments had failed in their promises to develop the Region and it was time for the people to disengage themselves from the two parties and vote for the CPP.

On the Ho-Central Constituency, he said the bitter rivalry and the antagonistic tendencies between the NPP and the NDC, made the CPP a preferred choice to champion the development aspiration of the people. Mr Prince Ahiadzro, Volta Regional Chairman of the CPP, asked the people to count the benefits they had derived after serving as the "world bank" of the NDC.

He said the people had nothing to show for supporting NDC adding that it had been a huge disappointment and urged the people to vote for the CPP, which had an antidote to all the socio-economic failures of the country.

Mr Zilas Dikro, Ho-Central Campaign Manager of the CPP, urged all peace loving Ghanaians to embrace the CPP for accelerated development.
