Politicians must collaborate to develop their area – Ekwow Gyan

Mr Alfred Ekwow Gyan, Deputy Western Regional Minister, has called on Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCE) to collaborate in citing of development projects in their areas.

He said the system is not against MPs carrying out projects in their constituencies, but it should be done in consultation with all relevant stakeholders.

Mr Gyan said this at a day’s meeting held by the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) for the MMDCEs, Coordinating Directors, and Presiding Members to deliberate on the progress of development projects in the region.

The issue came up when some of the Chief Executives complained about difficulties they encountered when MPs attempted to undertake projects promised to their constituents.

Mr Anthony Bassaw, District Chief Executive for Mpohor, said the assembly would be compelled to use Internally Generated Funds to complete a school project being undertaken with Getfund as it has been abandoned by a contractor for quite a long time.

Mr Ebenezer Teye Addo, the Western Regional Minister, charged the MMDCEs to focus on executing governmental agenda programme planned for the nation.

Mr Addo said some of government’s priority projects include job creation, clean environment, local government development, street naming/property marking and the deepening of decentralization.
