The Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa Constituency, Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani, has disclosed that his victory over the former MP for the area, Kobina Tahir Hammond (KT Hammond), keeps earning him public praise and monetary rewards.

According to the MP, his victory in the 2024 general election was an act of liberation for the people of the constituency who had been under the leadership of the former MP for 24 years.

“If, by the grace of God, the people of Adansi Asokwa have been liberated from trials and tribulations through me, the insults and all the disgrace should stop, because you people dash me money when I go out. They ask, ‘Are you the one who overthrew KT Hammond?’ When I respond in the affirmative, I am given a token to buy fuel,” he stated.

The MP made the comment when a High Court in Obuasi dismissed an election petition filed by the former MP to challenge Animli’s victory.

According to reports, the case, filed on January 15, 2025, was struck out by the court after the petitioner failed to appear on three consecutive occasions.

The court further imposed a fine of ₵60,000 on the former MP.

Speaking to the media after the court’s ruling, he stated that the ruling by the court is a vindication of his victory and the incompetence of the case filed against him by the former MP.

“The substantive issue was not even addressed because he breached all the laws guiding election petitions. By the grace of God, the court has listened to what my lawyers and I said and has dismissed the case. When I get back, many of my constituents will be happy that he has lost again, and many people will be tagging him with all kinds of things that he could have avoided in the first place,” he stated.

Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani, on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress, won the December 7, 2024, polls for Adansi Asokwa Constituency with 14,229 votes against KT Hammond, who polled 13,725.
