Party activist call for maintenance of non-partisan District Assembly concept

Accra, May 27, GNA - Mr. Aflah Sackey, Ablekuma Central Constituency Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stressed the need to maintain the non-partisan idea of the District Assembly concept so that confident and honest people are elected during district assembly elections scheduled for August, this year. He said this would ensure that capable people are elected to champion the cause of their people and mobilize them for accelerated development.

Mr. Sackey, who spoke to the GNA in an interview on Saturday at a suburb, Russia of the Nmenmeete electoral area said members of the community have the right to ensure that assembly members perform their duties as expected of them. He said because majority of the people lack education on assemblies by-laws and concept they get up almost everyday chasing members of parliament at their homes for their children's school fees and other needs.

The NPP organizer said, we have the right to initiate economic programmes and mobilize funds in our electoral areas to improve upon our living standards without chasing any MP for money. Mr. Sackey cautioned the people of Nmenmeete electoral area not to deny themselves the opportunity to elect those who would represent their interests and ensure good governance if they fail to exercise their franchise.
