PPP suspends planned anti-corruption demo

The Progressive People's Party has suspended its planned demonstration next week, over alleged corruption in government.

National Chairman of the PPP, Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond, says the decision to call off the protest is in respect of the ban imposed on demonstrations by the police.

The Accra Police Command had vowed to stop the protest on the grounds that its ban on all public demonstrations until after Ghana’s presidential election petition is over still holds.

Speaking to JOYNEWS on Sunday, Mr. Brew-Hammond said although the Party was yet to receive official communication from the police to that effect, they will "abide by it".

"We have not received any official response from the police, we heard on radio that the ban is still in force until the verdict is declared so we will abide by it," he said.
