Over 15,000 more voters register in Tamale Metropolis

Tamale, July 30, GNA - Some 15,770 new qualified voters have registered with the Electoral Commission during the recent voters' registration exercise in the 54 electoral areas in the Tamale Metropolis.

Mr. Nuhu Mahama, Tamale Metro Electoral Officer, told the GNA on Friday that the voter population has now increased from 185,615 in the Tamale Metropolis to 201,385 voters.

He said though turnout to cross check names and to register people who turned 18 years and above was slow, the number of people who registered was great and encouraging.

He said there was no case of registered voters who had died after the 2004 elections, indicating that the EC would work out modalities and measures to check such cases to ensure that the register was clean before the 2008 elections.
