The Oti Region has successfully confirmed all nine nominated Municipal District Chief Executives (MDCEs) by President John Mahama.
Seven out of the nominees gained unanimous 100 percent approval, while the remaining two got an average of 82.5 percent.
The nominees who secured 100 percent votes are Eric Kwaku Oppong of Biakoye, Dr Samuel Suraj Oppong of Kadjebi, and Martin Kofi Anato for Krachi Nchumuru. Others include Safo Nketia of Krachi East, Prosper Addo of Krachi West, Joseph Antwi of Nkwanta-South, and Isaiah Dordoe of Nkwanta North.
Parke-Davis Magyigbe, DCE of Jasikan, and Godfried Koffie of Guan received 86 percent and 79 percent of the votes, respectively.
Before the confirmation process, all government appointees were sworn into office by a judge to ensure a full house and elected their respective Presiding Members (PM).
The Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, attended each of the assemblies, urging assembly members to vote responsibly in order to support the development of the region, according to a report on graphiconline.com.
He noted that development begins at the district level and encouraged members to put aside partisan considerations.
“Our region has a wealth of both natural and human resources that can contribute to the socio-economic development of the area, we must unite to make the Oti Region a winner.” he said.
Gyapong also described the Oti Region as a “baby” in terms of development and stressed the importance of collective effort for progress.
In his acceptance speech, Eric Kwaku Oppong, a 53-year-old administrator, expressed appreciation for the assembly members’ support.
He called on all stakeholders, including traditional authorities, to come together to address the challenges in the area and assured his full commitment to successful implementation of government programmes and policies.
