ORAL has arrogated to itself powers they don't have - Suame MP slams committee

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament of Suame, John Darko, has raised concerns about actions of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, asserting that it has overstepped its boundaries.

He also questioned the legitimacy of its decisions, noting that the committee has taken on powers it does not possess and describing its actions as questionable.

β€œAnd listen, this so-called committee has arrogated to themselves powers they don't have, okay? We need to question every move they make,” John Darko said in a video shared on X by JoyNews on January 16, 2025.

John Darko also expressed disapproval of the committee's activities, particularly prior to the swearing-in of President John Dramani Mahama.

"But I wouldn't have any problem with it if he did it after he was sworn in. Yes, I wouldn't. But before he was sworn in, he didn't have the power to do that. That is what we are saying," he said.

The MP further criticised the committee's approach, suggesting that any outcomes derived from its current foundation would be basically flawed.

"In the end, they are saying they will prepare every document and go and give it to the president. If you understand that, you know what is referred to. It's going to be a fruit from a poisoned tree. The fruit of a poisoned tree. The foundation is wrong. Whatever comes out of it will be wrong as well," he asserted.
