Northern Region NDC Executives retain positions

Tamale, Nov. 23, GNA- Alhaji Sumani Zakaria, incumbent Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and most of the former executives of the party retained their positions at a regional delegates' conference in Tamale on Sunday to elect new executives. Alhaji Zakaria beat his closes rival, Mr. San Nasamu Asabigi, a former Deputy Minister for the Northern Region, with 130 votes to 104 votes. The third contestant for the position, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulai (Mobila) got 14 votes.

Mr. Sarfo Azorka was elected first Vice Chairman when he polled 148 votes to beat Mr. Kofi Iddi who had 56 votes. Alhaji Abdulai Zlimboma, the Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) was elected the Regional Organizer when he polled 154 votes.

The post of Regional Secretary and Treasurer went to Mr. Imoro Issifu Alhassan) and Tanko Rashid respectively with the former polling 167 votes to beat his rival Mohammed Aliu who got 67 votes while the latter polled 185 as against 45 votes for Abiba Alhassan Chambas. Alhaji Umar Farouk was elected the regional propaganda secretary with 84 votes cast in his favour.

Dr. Kwabena Adjei and Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman and General Secretary of the NDC respectively with a number of parliamentarians were in Tamale to observe the elections.

Dr. Adjei hinted that the Tamale would most likely to host the National Delegates Conference of the NDC for the first time in the history of the party.

He appealed to the contestants and their supporters to put the election behind them and strive to promote unity and understanding in the party.
