No deal with NDC – Konadu

Former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has sworn never to return to her husband’s party, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

It follows rumours that she’s negotiating to be the running mate to President John Mahama in the 2016 general elections.

Konadu left the NDC to form her own political grouping - National Democratic Party (NDP) – although she is the wife of former President Jerry John Rawlings who is credited as the founder of the governing party.

A statement signed and issued by National Chairman of the NDP, Dr. Nii Armah Josiah Aryeh, said: “We state emphatically here and now that the NDP leader, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, shall never and will never return to the NDC nor have any association with the NDC.”

He could not fathom why those he described as ‘her detractors’ continued to fabricate an imaginary link between the former first lady and the NDC. He stated, “Why the NDC and not any other party takes the delight in circulating all manner of rumours around Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings beats all imagination.”

The statement underscored, “An obvious point of departure between the NDP and the NDC is that whilst from her decades of proven leadership, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has placed the people as the essence of governance, the NDC, with its start-ups, is self-seeking, negligent of the people’s plight and in an expedition only to win political mandate.”

Dr. Josiah Aryeh therefore noted that “Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings will literally convulse to be associated with the NDC, purporting to be social democratic whilst the economic plight of Ghanaians becomes so abysmal.”

He stressed the belief that the NDC’s strategy was to launder their mal-governance with an association with the NDP leader and urged Ghanaians not to fall for such cheap schemes. “Ghanaians shall no longer be so gullible to the NDC’s grand deception contrivance as an alternative to prosperity and good governance,” he declared.

Dr. Aryeh has, therefore, asked Ghanaians to treat any speculation of Mrs. Rawlings rejoining the NDC with contempt because she is going nowhere.
