Deputy General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Obiri Boahene says the defeated NPP parliamentary aspirant in the Klottey Korle constituency, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey is yet to officially inform party leadership about his decision to run as an independent candidate in this year's polls.

“He has not penned us [NPP] officially to explain his decision. The constituency executives must communicate to the party leadership about Nii Noi’s exit. The party doesn’t know about that but individually, we have heard his decision,” he said in an interview on NEAT FM’s 'Ghana Montie' programme.

Nii Noi Nortey will now contest the Klottey Korle seat as an independent candidate in the November 7 polls.

Posters in circulation and his confirmation at a press conference held Wednesday indicates so; it is however, unclear whether he has resigned from the NPP.

The ‘Street Boy’, a former constituency chairman, won the initial primary organized by the NPP in August 2015.

His main contender and a member of the NPP legal team, Philip Addison managed to get the results annulled by an Accra High Court.

The reelection which was organized some weeks ago saw Philip Addison emerge as the winner after he polled 396 votes against 367 garnered by the Nortey.

Supporters of Nii Noi Nortey were aggrieved by the outcome and has forced him to contest the seat as an independent candidate.

However, Nana Obiri Boahen has expressed disappointment in some comments from Nii Noi’s camp stating that the NPP leadership lacked ‘managerial skill’ – “This is unfortunate. He is not being fair to the party.”
