File photo File photo

The appointment of a new District Chief Executive for the Effiduase – Asokore Constituency in the Ashanti Region has been questioned by a group calling itself the Concern Citizens of Asokore in the Sekyere East District.

According to the group, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo must consider choosing the new DCE from their assembly so as to maintain the “the existing tradition”.

In a statement copied to the President, the group’s leader, Yaw Adu explained that – “We want the tradition that exists within the constituency remain unchanged. The tradition was that when the Member of Parliament is being selected from Effiduase then the District Chief Executive must also come from Asokore.”

Their complain comes after some elders from Effiduase are alleged to be lobbying to have the District Chief Executive from their urban despite having the Member of Parliament from the township.

The current Member of Parliament for Effiduase – Asokore Constituency, Hon. Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie is a native of Effiduase.

Below is the letter to the president

THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
FLAGSTAFF HOUSE
ACCRA

Dear Sir,

CITIZENS OF ASOKORE AND N.P.P YOUTH OF ASOKORE IN ASHANTI REGION PETITION HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT ON HIS CHOICE OF DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE

We the concern citizens of Asokore in the Sekyere East District of Ashanti wish to petition His Excellency, The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, The National Executive Council, The Regional Executive Council and Constituency Executives of the New Patriotic Party (N.P.P) that we are all aware that the Effiduase – Asokore Constituency is a strong hold of the ruling party in terms of politics.

We want the tradition that exist within the Constituency remain unchanged. The tradition was that when the Member of Parliament is being selected from Effiduase then the District Chief Executive must also come from Asokore.

The current member of Parliament has been elected from Effiduase in the person of Hon. Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie and the Presiding member of the Assembly is also from the same town in the person of Hon. Foster Asare.

Mr. President, the constituency is made up of Effiduase and Asokore Traditional Areas. At the party level, Effiduase and Asokore by convention (since 1992) have reserved some constituency positions solely for persons from Asokore and Effiduase respectively.

Below are the breakdown of the constituency executives for the two traditional areas.

EFFIDUASE ASOKORE
1. 1st Vice Chairman 1. Chairman
2. Secretary 2. 2nd Vice Chairman
3. Organizer 3. Assistant Secretary
4. Youth Organizer 4. Deputy Organizer
5. Deputy Women Organizer 5. Deputy Youth Organizer
6. Communication 6. Women Organizer
7. Research / Elections 7. Treasurer
8. Financial Secretary 8. NASARA

Therefore on matter of equity your Excellency where do you think the appointment of District Chief Executive will be?

However 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections is just around the corner, in lure of that when the DCE appointment goes to Effiduase don’t you think the people of Asokore will be peaved and vote against the party?

Our political opponents (NDC) can use this as a point to campaign against the N.P.P because they even selected their District Chief Executive from Asokore when the M.P was from Effiduase.

In view of this we are appealing to His Excellency the President to use his good offices to appoint the incoming District Chief Executive from Asokore so that peace and tranquility that exist within the Constituency prevail. In other to bring balance and peaceful co – existence.

Yours faithfully,

HON. YAW ADU
(Gov’t Appointee)
