Nduom: My detractors can't stop me

Convention Peoples Party presidential aspirant, Paa Kwesi Nduom, Monday said at Koforidua that his detractors would stop at nothing in their effort to destroy his political career.

But he was confident their machinations would come to naught, since his conscience was clear, having worked with the NPP administration in the interest of the nation, not for self.

He said he joined the Kufuor administration not on his own volition but with concern and approval of the central committee of the CPP after an appeal was made to the party for his release to assist in running the affairs of the country.

Paa Kwesi said he worked in the best interest of the country, dismissing the notion that he abandoned the CPP and joined the New Patriotic Party. Speaking to newsmen after his regional and constituency tours at the CPP regional office in Koforidua, Dr Nduom said "the good people in the CPP know the arrangement which sent me into the Kufuor administration and working for a government does not mean joining a party," declaring "I am still a member of the CPP, and a card-bearing member". He said he had contributed more to the party, especially in supporting those who stood as CPP parliamentary candidates in certain parts of the country in the last elections. "The people know what I did for them."

Touching on his regional tours, he said he had been getting good response from the people, maintaining, "what they are looking for is a personality who can lead CPP to win the 2008 elections and is also capable of leading the country." Such a leader, he submitted, was Paa Kwesi Nduom.

Dr Nduom stressed the need for members of the CPP to come together and forge ahead in peace and unity. He said party need a change that would make it more formidable to be able to stand the test of time, declaring that the party has young men and women who are prepared to help move the party forward. He added that the people can do more only when they see peace and unity prevailing. He urged CPP members and supporters to remain united and help to build the party in the best interest of the country.
