Navrongo Central Constituency PNC Declares support for NDC

Navrongo (UE), Dec. 19, GNA - The Navrongo Central Constituency Executive of the People's National Convention (PNC) has thrown its weight behind the Opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC)in the Presidential run-off scheduled for December 28.

In a statement signed by the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Addatekey, and read at a news conference in Navrongo on Thursday by a party activist, Mr. Pwoawuvi J. Weguri, the PNC said members in the constituency had resolved to throw their weight behind Professor Evans Atta Mills and the NDC. It called on all PNC members and supporters to canvas and vote massively for the NDC in the Presidential run-off. The statement explained that the current NDC was a new centre left party and "we are likely to understand each other ideologically."

It noted that Professor Atta Mills is an Nkrumaist, a product of Kwame Nkrumah's Ideological Institute and indicated that with him in Government there would be better agreement over policy directions. The statement said the NDC would be more committed to the Northern Development initiatives than the NPP, emphasizing that by the NDC centre left stance they would be more committed to pro-poor policy, ensure more inclusion than marginalization.

The statement explained that the PNC's abysmal performance during the recent election was attributed to the NPP and noted in 2000 election the PNC supported the NPP to win the election but that it failed to cooperate and work with the PNC.

It noted that the ministerial positions given to the PNC by the NPP was very minimal and said it failed to create a platform for the PNC to participate in discussions that could lead to effective policy formulation for Ghanaians.

It noted that the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), School Feeding Programme, the Capitation Grants, Free Medicare for Pregnant Women, among others, by the NPP were all policy positions of the Nkrumah-Liman Tradition which they had failed to acknowledge.

Mr. Richard Asagda Adua, NDC Regional Chairman, Mr. Baba Alhassan, the NDC Navrongo Central Chairman and the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Navrongo Central, Mr. Mark Wayongo, were at the function. Mr. Wayongo commended the PNC for their support and said the NDC would work with them in all their endeavours when they win the election. He appealed to them to work assiduously to enable the party to capture power in the impending election.

He indicated that the NPP had failed to secure the majority in parliament and that the NDC had obtained the majority and would be able to implement policies effectively to the benefit of Ghanaians.
