NPP urged to stop in-fighting in Gomoa

Apam (C/R), Nov. 1, GNA - Obrifo Ahunaku Ahor Ankobea II, Omanhene of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, has expressed concern about the 'in-fighting' among supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Gomoa District.

He called for an end to such unhealthy practice since its rippling effects could have serious repercussions on the work of the Gomoa District Assembly.

Obrifo Ahor Ankobea made the comment at the inauguration of the reconstituted Gomoa District Assembly at Apam.

Mrs Cecilia Abena Dapaah, MP for Bantama and a Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing performed the inauguration on behalf of President J A Kufuor.

Ms Joyce Aidoo, District Chief Executive (DCE), in a welcoming address urged the members to be resourceful to enable them to support the Assembly in its development agenda.

She admonished them to confront issues with facts and figures which could be approved and avoid relying on hearsay. Mr Joe Kingsley Hackman, Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, urged members to explain the Millennium Challenge Account, of which the District was a beneficiary to the people.

Mr Fred Oscar Abban, Assistant Headmaster of Gomoa Dawurampong Secondary Technical School retained the position of Presiding Member of the Assembly.

He polled 51 votes in the first balloting as against 17 and nine votes polled by Mr Samuel Eshun and Prince Charles Abbam respectively, but failed to secure the two third of the 80-member Assembly. The two contestants stepped down when they realized that there was no way they could beat him. Mr Kwaku Aboagye District Magistrate administered the oaths of secrecy and office to both the assembly members and the Presiding Member. 01 Nov. 06
