NPP unveils campaign team

The opposition New Patriotic Party yesterday inaugurated its national campaign team that has been tasked with the responsibility of supervising the party’s campaign activities to ensure victory in the 2012 elections.

Inaugurating the campaign team, the Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, thanked all the Chairpersons of the various committees for accepting to serve and work for the party to execute the campaign.

He noted that the campaign team would be responsible for the general combat of the campaign. According to him, all the persons chosen to play the various roles in the campaign team are people who are very competent and capable of doing the work.

He implored them to work hard, and be guided by the single objective of winning the 2012 elections.

“The Ghanaian people are obviously not happy with the performance of the NDC and the cry is the same everywhere you go. The Ghanaian people see in us the NPP, the instrument that can bring back hope and prosperity to them, and we cannot fail them,” he charged them.

The 35-member Campaign Committee is made up of National Chairman, Jake Obestesbi-Lamptey, former National Chairman, Peter Mac Manu, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flagbearer and his Campaign Manager, Boakye Agyarko, who is member-Secretary of the Committee.

Other members of the committee are Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Minority Leader; Fred Oware, T B Damba, and Sophia Honner-Sam, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Vice Chairpersons respectively of the party; Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, General Secretary; Esther Ofori, National Treasurer; Alhaji Muctar Bamba, National Organiser; Otiko Djaba, National Women’s Organiser; Anthony Karbo, National Youth Organizer; and Alhaji Abubakar Sulemana.

The following people were nominated by the Presidential Candidate to be part of the campaign team: Alan Kyeremanten, Isaac Osei and Kwabena Frimpong, all contestants in the party’s 2009 presidential primary; Hajia Alima Mahama, former Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs; Mike Oquaye, MP for Dome-Kwabenya; Cecilia Abena Dapaah, MP for Bantama; Freddy Blay, former MP for Ellembele; and Mrs Beno Bismark.

The Committee will also include the running mate, to be selected next year, and his campaign manager.

The Member of Parliament for Okere and former General Secretary of the party, Dan Botwe, has been appointed Director of Campaign Strategy.

Others are Yaw Twumasi, Chairperson of Manifesto Directorate; Matthew Opoku Prempeh, MP for Manhyia, Electoral Affairs; Ato Williams, Logistics while Gloria Akufo, a former Deputy Attorney General, heads the Legal Committee.

Ken Ofori-Atta, Executive Chairman of Databank Financial Services, is Chairperson of the Finance Committee while Lord Commey, a former National Organiser, has been appointed Director in charge of Operations.

In charge of the Research Directorate is Victor Newman while Frema Osei-Opare chairs the Conflict Resolution Committee, with Nana Akomea as Chairperson of the Communication Directorate.

The party has also set up a Campaign Advisory Board, which is headed by former President John Agyekum Kufuor. The advisory board has former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama as its Vice Chairman. Other members include the Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, and Boakye Agyarko, Nana Addo’s Campaign Manager.
