NPP to appeal rerun of Kpandai seat

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced its intention to file an appeal against the decision to declare a rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary seat.

Speaking at the launch of the party’s 2025 Constitution Amendment on December 3, 2025, at the party’s headquarters, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, reaffirmed the party’s victory in the constituency.

“Mr Chairman, on December 7, 2024, from all the 152 polling stations in Kpandai, results were duly counted, announced, and declared by the Electoral Commission,” Kodua said.

He stated that the NPP’s candidate, Matthew Nyindam, won with 27,947 votes compared to the NDC’s 24,213 votes, insisting that the ruling calling for a rerun was unjust.

“Mr Chairman, it is also important to note that after the collation internally, our candidate, Honourable Matthew Nyindam, won with 27,947 votes compared to the NDC’s 24,213 votes.

"Mr Chairman, it is important to state that contrary to the false impression created, which the court says that the parliamentary candidate of the NDC had no representative at the collation centre or was not present, the regional secretary of the NDC was at the collation centre," he said.

He further stated that, "The NDC parliamentary candidate did not show up at the collation centre because he knew he had lost.”

Kodua also criticised the High Court ruling delivered on November 24, 2025, which went beyond the 41 polling stations challenged by the NDC and disregarded the results of all 152 polling stations.

"Mr Chairman, on November 24, 2025, the High Court judge gave a ruling. It was expected that the ruling was going to centre on the 41 polling stations that were before the court, but surprisingly, the High Court judge went beyond the 41 polling stations and ignored the results of all 152 polling stations.

"Mr Chairman, this is very abysmal and disheartening to our democracy," he added.

Kodua also added that the NPP has, therefore, resolved to pursue the matter through the courts.

"Because we are a party of rule of law, we have decided to file an appeal on this judgment and also raise serious issues of jurisdiction of the High Court on this matter," he stated.
