NPP stalwart takes Kyeremanten to task

It appears Mr. Alan Kyeremanten’s call on members of the New Patriotic Party to put him up as their next flagbearer is yet to sink into the ‘political minds’ of some members.

Following his earlier claims that he possesses the magic wand to sway floating voters as compared to the other potential flagbearer aspirants, many have questioned the approach he used to arrive at this conclusion.

Nana Obiri Boahen, a legal practitioner and a leading member of the NPP has challenged Mr. Kyeremanten to come out and disclose the scientific and mathematical approach forming the basis of his remarks.

In an interview with Okay FM, the former deputy interior minister under the Kufuor administration made it clear that he personally believes the call lacks certain requisite ingredients to convince any politician.

His explains that, “if he (Kyeremanten) claims he is appealing to floating voters, he must define to us who those set of voters are. If he is able to explain to us using statistics, then it would make his call more understandable. But without any scientific and mathematical analysis, then it is unconvincing," he said.

Mr. Alan Kyeremanten maintains that the NPP risk losing the 2016 general elections if Nana Akufo-Addo is elected flagbearer. Speaking to NPP stalwarts and potential delegates in New York a couple of weeks ago, Mr. Kyeremanten said although Nana Addo had represented the party well in the last two elections, he did not appeal to floating voters.

He further stressed the need for the NPP to field a candidate who will, according to him, appeal to the “300,000 and 500,000 people who always decide the final vote”.

But Nana Obiri Boahen further rebuffed Mr. Kyeremanten’s call by asking him to literally wake up from his slumber if he is asleep and further urged him to tell the whole world “where he personally met the floating voters who pledge their allegiance to vote him into power if nominated as the NPP’s flagbearer”.
