Former President John Mahama and former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah have incurred the wrath of many after a rebuttal to comments from Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II that he persuaded Mr. Mahama to accept 2016 election outcome.

This has sparked public debate on the matter.

Edmund Kyei, Asokwa Constituency 1st Vice Chairman has waded into the matter stating emphatically that His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been instrumental in the peace Ghanaians are enjoying and, thus the reaction from the former president is a ploy to disgrace Asantehene.

He posited that the peace ambassadorial role by the King can be clearly elaborated in the major role he played recently in forestalling peace in Dagbon and his unbiased stance and counsel on many national issues.

It all started when His Majesty was recently invited to deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly where he truthfully made it known in his delivery the role he played in the 2016 general election, to ensure a peace prevailed after the results of the polls were declared.

He indicated that he persuaded the then incumbent president John Mahama who was unwilling to accept the outcome of the election to accept defeat.

However, immediately the information came into the media space, former chief of staff under the erstwhile Mahama administration released a statement to refute Otumfuo’s earlier assertion, claiming John Mahama wasn’t persuaded to accept defeat.

“What is disturbing about their rebuttal is the fact that over the years, Ashantehene had made same comment on other platforms but never received any rebuttal or attacks on him so why now?”

“Was it because of the stage he made the recent comment?,” he said.

It would be recalled that after the 2016 elections the then Electoral Commission Chair, Madam Charlotte Osei struggled to announce the outcome of 2016 elections, hence the delay in declaring the winner.

This kept all citizens at the edge of their seats with many fearing the reactions from opposing political parties when results are announced.

The conspiracy theory around these events suggested John Mahama was not ready to accept the outcome hence the need for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to step in.

It is therefore bizzare the two NDC gurus would attempt to skew facts of the past election to put our King in bad light.

His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II never lied, so the public must reject the statement from John Mahama through Julius Debrah as it is a clear calculated attempt by the NDC cronies to dent the image of Asantehene.

“We the people from the Ashanti region have not taken lightly their actions and are therefore giving them one week-ultimatum to apologise and retract their pedestrian statement or face our wrath,” Mr Kyei asserted.
