NPP presidential aspirants advised against inflammatory language

The Brong Ahafo regional co-ordinator of the NASARA club, a youth wing within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) , Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Abass has called on all the aspirants vying for the presidential slot ahead of the 2008 general elections to carry out their campaign activities devoid of unguarded statements.

According to him anything nasty would affect the party’s chances in the nation’s next general elections slated for December 2008. Speaking to the press in Sunyani, the regional capital he warned the aspirants never to attack the reputation of their opponents since such attitude has no active role in democracy.

Alhaji Abass reiterated that what the party is yearning for mow is a competent and submissive personality like the out going president, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, adding that it would do the party and the nation at large a great benefit for the good works and foundation of president Kufuor to be continued without any barricade.

He said after preaching on numerous platforms that the umbrella family really believes in internal democracy all eyes are watching the outcome of the December congress.

He stated emphatically that after wallowing in political wilderness for more than three decades NPP should consider her sordid past and elect a winnable candidates cable of making great impact. The regional co-ordinater denounced assertion going on in some quarters of the party that the nation’s next presidential and parliamentary elections are foregone conclusion for NPP considering the number of development made so far as.

‘let me tell those people that if physical projects matters in multi party democracy then NPP wouldn’t had suffered that humiliating defeat in the hands of NDC after loosing the two enviable parliamentary seats in Techiman north and south constituencies. Talk of education all would agree that the two NPP candidates, the sitting MP, at that time , Hon. Prince Oduro Mensah and the then minister of education , Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi were all good candidates capable of steering the affairs of the two constituencies they at the end gnash their teeth loosing the seats to NDC’, Alhaji Abass continued.

He further advocated for continues meeting for the aspirants to be organized by the party’s executive on the mode of language to choose any time they mount platform to explain their policies to the local executives who have the electoral mandate to exercise their franchise during the voting day. ‘This does not mean that the national executives are going to dictate for the aspirants rather, a path finding arena that have to be followed for peace and tranquility to prevail before and after the 2008 general elections’, the regional co-co-ordinator added.

Alhaji expressed deep regret over a recent publication carried out by the Ghanaian chronicle about, Mr. Alan Kyeremateng one of the key aspirants in the race, pointing out that if there was any iota of truth in the said publication then something urgent must be done before it is too late’ he warned.

‘we never saw such moneys when the party was in opposition why this time around , I pray there is no truth in that allegation rather a concocted one just to score political points as commonly done by most newspapers in the country to satisfy their whims and caprices’. According to him moneycracy is a negative phenomenon that has to be tackled with all seriousness in order to prevent the disgruntled ones from soiling the party’s image in their quest to brighten their political Curriculum Vitae (CV).

The aspirants were urged to consider how NPP sojourned to this far and compliment the efforts of their predecessors like the late Dr. Adu Boahen and others who fought gallantly touring hard to reach communities in Ghana only to lay a reliable foundation for posterity because this is not the time of washing the party’s dirty linen in public for opposition ridicule.
