NPP parliamentary candidate calls for closer collaboration

Sunyani (B/A), July 18, GNA - Mr Boakye Boateng, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for Asutifi South on Friday called for closer collaboration between members of the party and the Zongo communities to brighten the chances of the party in the December polls. Mr Boateng told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani that the NPP was a unified party under a great elephant and devoid of tribal sentiments.

He asked members and supporters of the party to explain government policies such as the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education, National Health Insurance Scheme and the capitation grant especially in the Zongo communities to make them appreciate the benefits.

Mr Boateng, also the Sales and Operations Manager of K. Adom Limited, a Guinness distribution company in Sunyani, underscored the importance to motivate the various branches of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy of the party so they could campaign effectively in the rural areas.

He explained that the government under President J.A. Kufuor had done its part in enhancing national progress and it was incumbent on Members of Parliament (MPs) to be more pro-active and to be accountable to the people in the execution of projects.

Mr Boateng expressed regret that majority of the people in the constituency still depended on streams and rivers for water and had to walk for more than five kilometres before they could get water for their household chores.

Mr Boateng mentioned communities like Akokosu, Yamkra, Denkyine and Kawasuso in the constituency that lacked potable drinking water and more places of convenience.

He said although Alhaji Collins Dauda, the incumbent MP, had served in that capacity for 12 years, the constituency had not witnessed any changes in development.

Mr Boateng said education and agriculture were his priority and if given the nod would establish scholarship schemes and provide agricultural inputs to support both students and farmers. He appealed to NPP faithful not to be deceived by the negative propaganda being circulated by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) against the NPP and eschew acts that could mar the December poll.

Mr Boateng appealed to persons who had attained 18 years and above but had not registered to do so when the voter's register was opened to enable them to exercise their franchise and vote massively for the NPP. 18 July 08
