NPP Vice-Chairman urges Party to get stronger in Volta Region

Ho, Jan. 4, GNA - Mrs Agnes Okudzeto, First National Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged members of the Party in the Volta Region to build a strong position for the Party. She made the call at the Party's recent Regional Delegates Conference which re-elected Mr Kenwuud Nuworsu as Regional Chairman to steer the affairs for the next four years.

Mrs Okudzeto said it was time the Volta Regional Branch of the Party did its best to discard the notion that it was the weakest link. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Kofi Dzamesi, former Volta Regional Minister, said the NPP had shown consistency in improving on its electoral performance over the years though modest. He said in the last elections, the NPP did well in the region with a further improvement in the presidential run-off.

Mr Dzamesi said the regions considered to be the stronghold of the NPP rather fared dismally in the presidential run-off losing by big margins. He said had resources not been withheld from the region in the run-off, it would have garnered significant votes.

Mr Dzamesi, who had contested the Ketu-North Parliamentary elections twice and lost, said he would not be contesting anymore. He said he was able to win 90 percent of all the rural areas in that constituency for the NPP except the Dzodze Town. 04. Jan. 2010.
