NPP TESCON demands voting rights

Takoradi, Dec. 31, GNA - The Takoradi Polytechnic Chapter of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is demanding voting rights in the determination of the party's leadership at the youth level.

It said this demand, which should be unconditional, would make the leadership accountable to the various chapters of TESCON in view of their "immense contributions to the success story of the party". These were contained in a statement to the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi on Saturday.

Mr. Bawiah Charles McCarthy and Mr. Kenneth Quansah, President and Deputy Public Relations Officer of TESCON respectively signed it. "TESCON is a recognised body of the NPP and taking into consideration the immense contribution it makes to the party, we demand unconditionally a voting right to determine our party leadership, at least at the youth level".

It said the demand was to press for further recognition and the needed respect that would boost the morale of members to pursue a vibrant youth front that would work for victory in the upcoming elections in 2008.

The statement suggested that TESCON be represented "partially or fully" in all party activities to acquaint it self with proceedings and standing orders to prepare them adequately for future assignments within the party.

It also congratulated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for organising a successful congress and said this had added to the efforts to entrench democracy in the country.
